Wild Gears Video: Two Wheel-Within-a-Wheel Patterns
I’m endlessly fascinated with what happens when you draw with a small gear inside one of Wild Gears’ asymmetrical holes in a larger gear, driving that larger gear inside an even larger ring.
Maybe you have to watch a video to get what I’m saying, so here is another one below.
I’ve written previously about this process, so check out my previous posts here and here.
In this video, the first pattern uses gear 45 in hole 60 in gear 135 inside ring 180. For the second pattern, I kept the same setup, and just changed the small gear to 32.
It’s a quiet video with no talking, just the sound of the felt pens and gears moving on the paper, made especially for those who get a pleasurable feeling when listening to quiet sounds (ASMR), and for those who love the relaxing effect of watching patterns unfold in pretty colors.
I’d like to know more about the Strange Shapes set and the kind of patterns they make. If you have them, would you mind making one or two videos about them please?
I will keep that in mind. I suppose you’ve seen this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-VkYfl6xRM
But you’re probably curious about the different triangles, squares etc.

I love to see the results of what they become when using the gears within gears within rings. I have tried to do some, but mine never come out to look like ones I have seen in YouTube videos. I wish someone would post a list of the gears that are used to produce such interesting designs. I love Wild Gears.
We are all just discovering this wheel-within-a-wheel thing. It’s an exploration. Some combinations give very dense designs. Some people may like that. Others produce sparse or asymmetrical designs. I always post the numbers with my videos. Wild Gears don’t come with instructions. It’s all too new.
